In Her Lap

You’d think a metropolis buried in dust and glazed by the fierce heat of summer was beyond saving.

Yet nature still keeps it within its embrace. Without warning, the sky unleashes heavy rain and hail hurled at furious speed.

Then, almost as suddenly as it began, it stops, as if to say, “I’m done”.

What remains is a washed, humbled city, lying beneath a shimmering sheet of water.
