The Conflict

By

Brain wants immortality, wealth, prosperity. It wants to live on, achieve things in life, succeed. It knows not to fall for illusions and give in to temptations. But, the heart is selfish, the heart is over caring, the heart is gullible, the heart is childish. Life is too cruel, the reality too harsh, and if it weren’t for the brain taking the front seat, the heart wouldn’t last seven days in the battle of life.

This is why the human body is gifted with both a heart and a brain and not heart alone. It is not surprising that the heart and brain are often at war with each other. The brain is quite done with the heart running into problems and creating trouble for it. However, it has to survive, and therefore, it does all it can to tame the heart. The heart, being the free bird it is, doesn’t like these restrictions. It wants to soar high. It wants to experience things. It wants to fall in love and taste the bitter taste of betrayal. The human heart knows no limits.

The truth be told, the heart is sick of being caged and kept from everything it seeks. But constant threats of failure, starvation, and death keeps it going and pumping blood. If it weren’t for these threats, the reckless human heart would have long led it to death.

And no one likes dying, at least not in this world. Death is an end no one wants to embrace. That makes sense, though. Why accept death when you can live for a long, long time. Although it might mean forgetting to live at all. Although, in this long lifespan of thousands of years, you wouldn’t have felt alive for even a quarter of it. But who cares, as long as you are breathing and walking on two feet, you are as good as alive.

And amidst the constant conflict for survival, freedom, and love, the soul just yearns for peace. But the human mind wants to continue living, and cannot let go of attachments it builds over the course of life. It craves for more. Live more, earn more, build more. If it could, it wants to live forever. And once the mind is stronger than the desires of heart, it goes about conquering, and reaching new heights.

However, forever is only an illusion, and an end awaits everything. The sprawling sea that stretches to infinity and deeper than our eyes can fathom, will dry out one day or freeze to ice. The wind that blows and carries the air to every living soul that lives, will just stop. The land that holds us in place, will give in. And everything, everyone we know of, will cease to exist. This end is the only way something new can be born.
